Bureau of Mineral Development (BMD) is functioning under Energy and Mineral Resources Division of the Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources, Government of The People’s Republic of Bangladesh. It was established in 1962 under Industries and Minerals Division of the then provincial government which was under Industries and Natural Resources Ministry of the central government. It was established in 1962 under Industries and Minerals Division of the then provincial government which was under Industries and Natural Resources Ministry of the central government. It is a revenue earning institution of the Government. Under The Mines and Minerals (Regulation and Development) Act 1992 (Act No. 39, 1992) and The Mines and Minerals Rules, 2012 Bureau of Mineral Development grants different exploration licenses, mining leases and quarry leases (except oil & gases) and performs overall management of those granted licenses or leases.
