Since its official establishment in 2008, Room to Read Bangladesh has been dedicated to transforming education across the nation. With the launch of our programs one year later, we have made significant strides in promoting literacy and empowering girls through education.Our Literacy Program has been instrumental in fostering fluency and aligning with the national curriculum, resulting in notable improvements in primary school education throughout Bangladesh. A recent assessment conducted in 2019 revealed that 59% of Grade 2 students supported by Room to Read were proficient in reading more than 45 words per minute, surpassing international benchmarks.We have witnessed the unwavering commitment of local communities and school authorities, evidenced by initiatives such as the establishment of community-run independent libraries and the adoption of Room to Read's teaching standards in schools. Additionally, our program components have been successfully scaled and replicated in non-program schools, further extending our impact.In 2019, participants in our Girls' Education Program achieved remarkable success in both the Secondary School Certificate (SSC) and Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) exams. With a pass rate of 96.11% in SSC and 79.53% in HSC, our participants outperformed the national averages, underscoring the effectiveness of our approach.At Room to Read, our vision is to create a world free from illiteracy and gender inequality. Through our collaborative efforts with governments and partner organizations, we continue to empower children in historically marginalized communities, equipping them with essential literacy skills and supporting girls as they navigate their educational journey and beyond.
