Bangladesh is a low-lying riverine country in South Asia, bordered by India to its west, north, and east, and Myanmar to its southeast. Due to its unique biophysical setting and abundant water resources, Bangladesh is endowed with a rich heritage of plant and animal species and supports a diverse array of ecosystems.
Bangladesh joined IUCN as a State Member in 1972. IUCN started its operations in the country in 1989 and established a country office in 1992.
To achieve its goals and objectives, IUCN in Bangladesh works in close collaboration with its Members comprising national non-government organizations, with key support from the Ministry of Environment and Forest, a State Member.
