About Us

The agency's roots can be traced back to Pakistan's Directorate of Defence Purchase. Following Bangladesh's independence from Pakistan in 1971, the Directorate General of Defence Purchase was created. Near Dhaka Cantonment, there was a purchase wing of Pakistan's Director Defence Purchase (DDP). DGDP began its journey after the country gained independence in 1971. The agency's roots can be traced back to Pakistan's Directorate of Defence Purchase. Following Bangladesh's independence from Pakistan in 1971, the Directorate General of Defence Purchase was created. Near Dhaka Cantonment, there was a purchase wing of Pakistan's Director Defence Purchase (DDP). DGDP began its journey after the country gained independence in 1971. The seven Bangladeshi employees of the DDP wing in Dhaka at the time formed a nucleus and began working for DDP. Five more people returned from Pakistan to join DDP. DDP had been operating on an ad hoc basis at the time. DDP was officially established on January 8, 1972, under a Ministry of Defence memorandum, and began operations on January 8, 1972.
