Mymensingh district headquarters was formed in 1791 and in 1869, municipality was formed with the aim of overall development and management of Mymensingh town. On 2 April 2018, the Mymensingh City Corporation was formed with the approval of the National Implementation Committee (NICAR) meeting on administrative re-organization.  On 14 October, the notification of Mymensingh City Corporation was issued on 14th October, 2014.
