The Rabindranath Tagore Ancestral Residence and Rabindra Memorial Collection in Pithavog, Rupsha, Khulna, is a significant cultural heritage site that traces the poet's lineage to the Kushari family. Originally known as "Kushari Bari," this location was home to Tagore's forefathers, including Jagannath Kushari, a 14th-generation ancestor and local zamindar. The family's surname evolved from "Kushari" to "Thakur," eventually becoming "Tagore" as they migrated to Kolkata.The New Nation In 2007, the government established a one-story memorial complex at the site, featuring a bust of Rabindranath Tagore, rare photographs, and reproductions of his artworks, including a self-portrait. Although Tagore himself never visited Pithavog, the site remains a poignant symbol of his ancestral roots.Despite its cultural significance, the site has faced challenges in preservation and recognition. In 2011, archaeologists conducted an initial excavation, uncovering the layout of a historical structure. However, further development has been limited due to administrative hurdles. Local advocates continue to call for the establishment of a comprehensive Rabindra Complex and research center to honor Tagore's legacy.
